One lesson I learned on my last (before current) laptop is that before reinstalling, you should find all the drivers (usually in a directory on a hard drive somewhere) and save them before wiping the disk. This saved me a lot of frustration when my current laptop came (thankfully, with XP and not Vista).

I’m interested to learn how rebuilding works, so please report on what you do and how it goes. I’m currently running an MD RAID 1 mirror and I’m not looking forward to the day when I have to figure out how to fix it when one drive goes down.

No, I scrapped it and am now using Gmail’s IMAP server for everything. I have all my email addresses forward directly to it.
