Good/Bad News

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

The bad news is that I will not be able to go rafting on the Rogue River and my summer plans were just shot to shit. The good news is that I got an internship at NASA as you can see in my previous post. It is from June 6 to August 12 in Maryland. Bummer, I was really looking forward to going rafting. There is more information availiable here.

Greetings and Congratulations from NASA/Goddard Office of Higher Education!

You are receiving this message because you have been selected to participate in the NASA Robotics Internship Program (or affiliated with the selectees or program). There are seven projects this year for which you wrote essays on your top three. In most cases, you have been matched with your first or second choice and in accordance with project team sponsor recommendations (PIs/Co-PIs). Perl

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

I made my first perl script. I can run it on the computer science server, and it will “submit” a lab for me. Whenever we have a lab due in computer science 201, we have to log into the server and run a submit command. The submit program runs the Makefile, gives the program some input and tests the output. If the output is what it expects, it says congratulations, otherwise it says what the output should be. My perl script looks at what the output should be, and makes the files so that it produces the correct output. In case you were wondering, the script is here.

Bike

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

I finally got around to fixing my bike. For the longest time, it would not shift into all of its gears. So I brought it up to my floor and had a couple of people look at it. Apparently, my back tire has a flat spot and the brake pads were rubbing in spots. So I got my hands on a spoke tightener thingy and with lots of trial and error, managed to make my wheel true again. With the help of Corey, my next door neighbor, I also managed to make it so I can shift into all of my gears.

In other news, I am back at school after Spring Break. For the first couple days, I went snowboarding with my dad, uncle Tom and uncle Jim at Big Sky. Then I went home and did very little.

Robot controlled horses?

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

I read an article in Scientific American about camels being controlled by robots for camel races in Saudi Arabia. I have never ridden a camel, but I assume the same type of robot could control a horse. Think about that. A herd of remotely controlled horses.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I just had a Math test followed immediately followed by a Physics test. The math test was hard, the physics test was easy. But I was so burned out by the math test, I have no clue how I did on the physics test. I am going to call it Spring Break starting now.

Math

Monday, March 7th, 2005

Lets see… What did I do last weekend… Oh yeah. Math.

I have a math mid-term tomorrow. Unfortunately I have not been going to class for the last week or so because it is really boring. So that means that last weekend, I taught myself how to integrate virtually every kind of function. I woke up on Saturday, procrastinated a bit, and then started to work on math with a couple of breaks for World of Warcraft. I did that all day. On Sunday, with the exception of a break for lunch and dinner, I studied math all day long. Nothing but math. Today I turned in over 10 pages of math homework, front and back.

I am tired of math.
