I was planning on going backpacking this weekend. I went and bought a hiking book and a topo map of the Bozeman area. However I could not find anyone to go with me. There are all sorts of fun looking hikes and climbs within 20 miles of my dorm that I could ride my bike to if necessary.
Instead I went mountain biking with 2 other people from my dorm. We drove 15 miles to Hyalite Resevoir then biked about 3 miles up a gravel road, then back down.
Next weekend I will definitaly go backpacking. From Hyalite Resevoir, there are trails all the way into Yellowstone. However the Spanish Peaks look inviting, they are only a 23 mile round trip hike.
